The Ziliujing District in Zigong City will build a historical and cultural corridor as well as an old street along the Fuxi River by preserving ancient buildings, according to a news briefing held in the city on August 22.

Located on both sides of the Fuxi River, the ancient buildings and streets featuring the unique salt culture in Zigong have great historical and touristic values. These preservation projects are expected to accurately recreate historical scenes, according to the conference.

"The project can bring more vitality to the city, arouse people's love for the city and serve to pass down historical culture in a better way," said Yang Zipeng, vice-director of the Zigong Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau.

With a length of 3.3 kilometers, the cultural corridor project includes the construction of a footpath, landscapes, lighting and other facilities. It will cost 365 million yuan and be completed by 2020. The building of the 1.5-kilometer-long ancient street including construction of landscapes, traditional courtyards, parking lots and a theatre will cost 900 million yuan and also be completed by 2020.

After the projects are completed, tourists can enjoy historical relics, the folk culture, intangible cultural heritage, ancient salt streets and other unique cultural features along the Fuxi River.
